Ten wishes for the New Year

China Daily | Updated: 2010-01-06 07:49

Most Chinese have wished for a better year. They want a change in their daily life and better welfare. They are supposed to have made 10 wishes, says an article on Xinhua Net. Excerpts:

A New Year wish can be varied. But for 2010, people seem to have made 10 wishes.

First, since all students deserve more equal education, people hope the education charges would be reduced so that the poor could get a better chance in academic and other fields.

Second, jobseekers should be given as much help as possible and efforts be made to raise the employment rate.

Third, more aged people should be able to draw pension to ensure them a hassle-free retired life.

Fourth, the ill should get adequate medical care and the government should do more to bring down the cost of medical service.

Fifth, all those who spend their time between cities and the countryside should get a decent place to live.

Sixth, the government should ensure that people's share in gross domestic products increases.

Seventh, the crime rate should decline and the government must take steps to combat criminal gangs and ensure security.

Eighth, the government should continue fighting corruption and promoting social justice.

Ninth, people who give their sweat and blood to provide us with food should be treated with respect and promoted in social status, and the government must adopt measures to narrow the widening gap between urban and rural places and their residents.

Last but not the least, people should have more say in public decisions.
