Don't destroy Santa with such displays
Don't destroy Santa with such displays
Before Xmas, China Daily advertised the big cultural event that was going to take place in Beijing: 60 drunken foreigners dressed as Santas would have fun in public as a "non-profit, non-political, non-religious and nonsensical annual convention". The only rule was "not to get too drunk". I found it disgusting but, busy preparing parties at home, I had no time to react. In fact, I didn't take it seriously and never thought the project would materialize.
After the event, Erik Nilsson - who is a journalist I have always respected - wrote in the Hot Pot column (Dec 31, 2009) a "report" of their behavior: They ran around Beijing for hours, singing, having strangers sitting on their laps, drunk to the point several of them had to be carried on their mates' back.
