Trust your heart, but not a horoscope

By Wang Chao | China Daily | Updated: 2010-01-04 08:08

Today when a girl has a feeling towards a guy, probably she will ask for his Zodiac sign, and quickly check their horoscope compatibility on the Internet. If you are an Aquarius, maybe you should avoid a Cancer; or if you are a Pisces, Leo might be a good choice.

Trust your heart, but not a horoscope

In a fast paced society like today, fewer and fewer people are willing to go through all the Mr Wrongs to finally find a Mr Right, only by listening to their heart.

When suddenly all the major websites build a section dedicated to horoscope signs, when bookstores are piled with "all-in-one guide to your horoscope", and when a superstar's horoscope becomes essential information, you have to admit that horoscopes have many fans.

So why are horoscopes becoming so popular? To me, it is no more than a superstition like palm-reading; but less complicated and mysterious.

Therefore, it looks more accessible to impatient youths. For horoscopes, all you need to know is your potential date's birthday and then you can figure him all out from horoscope websites or books, from his personality to his hobby even to his food preference - if you believe of course.

One of my friends has a lot of boyfriends. Once she seriously listed every ex-boyfriend and counted what horoscopes she hadn't tried. Her boyfriends would never imagine they had been categorized by different horoscopes.

Nowadays time becomes so crucial that a girl is obsessed with a quick and right guy, who can immediately provide the love she needs, just in the right way she expects in the horoscope book. They feel insecure of an unpredictable future because "what if I wasted another six months, during which I might have dated a dozen? And what if he is not the right one while my beauty fades away?"

But happy relationships always take time to build and maintain, and finding your significant other should not be like ordering hamburgers or fries in a fast-food restaurant that prepares and serves everything quickly, without any surprises.

Slow down girls. Have some faith and trust your heart.
