Desperate kidnapper of French senior charged

A local district court has charged a man for kidnapping a French woman from one of Beijing's most famous shopping streets in September.

Dou Mingqiang of Jiangxi province allegedly kidnapped a French tourist on Qianmen Street, a centuries old shopping street near Tian'anmen Square, on Sept 19.

Dou was immediately subdued by police and tourists who were accompanying the woman, Sun Ying, a Chongwen district court press officer, said yesterday.
