Shipping rules eased
The Ministry of Transport relaxed its rules yesterday to allow container shipping companies that are approved to ply the Straits to not only carry cargo destined for the two sides, but also trans-shipment cargo that originates from or heads to other economies. International container liners registered at the Chinese mainland or Taiwan can also carry empty containers that belong to or are rented by companies that do not have approval to operate direct shipping links, the ministry said in a statement on its website yesterday. The relaxed rules will take effect after the statement was made, a ministry spokesman said.
