Carbon emissions up

Government statistics showed yesterday that South Korea's carbon-dioxide emissions in 2007 zoomed up 2.9 percent year-on-year to 620 million metric tons, the fastest pace in five years.

According to data provided by the country's Ministry of Knowledge Economy, while the country's gross domestic product (GDP) rose 5.1 percent in 2007, inching down from a 5.2 percent growth a year earlier, greenhouse gas emissions rose nearly three times faster in 2007 than 2006.
