Sea routes to open

Shipping companies are encouraged to open more routes to transport passengers between the mainland and Taiwan, as the Ministry of Transport promised yesterday to grant the operator exclusive rights before the market becomes too big for one operator to handle.

The first such regular passenger liner was put into service between Xiamen and three port cities of Taiwan on Nov 19.
