Lawmaker shot in crossfire

A member of the Afghan parliament was mistakenly killed in a pre-dawn shootout between his bodyguards and police, officials said yesterday. Lawmaker Mohammad Yunos Shirnagha was killed as he returned home around 2:30 am. Officers were hiding in the area, where they expected militants to transport a Taliban commander wounded in fighting on Tuesday that killed four police officers and four insurgents, police said.
