Lesson from suicide

China Daily | Updated: 2009-12-19 08:25

The recent suicide of a female post-graduate student in Shanghai is a cause for concern, chiefly due to the circumstances of her case.

It was reported that the student was not allowed to put up her mother at her dorm on the Shanghai Maritime University campus. She was letting her mother stay only because it was beyond her means to rent a relatively decent accommodation for her retired mother.

The setbacks she suffered in the seven years since she first graduated from university had reduced her to complete despair. She chose to take her own life.
