Lawyers who break the rules targeted

By Wang Huazhong | China Daily | Updated: 2009-12-19 08:24

CHONGQING: A top judicial official in this municipality on Friday urged local legal bodies to record malpractices by lawyers and law firms and disclose acts that breach trust.

The move followed the arrest of a Beijing-based lawyer, Li Zhuang, 48, for allegedly inciting his client, a defendant accused of leading a mafia-style gang, to fabricate evidence and tell lies.

"Judicial bodies at all levels of the municipality should proactively supervise legal practitioners to avoid and correct malpractices that damage the interests of the public," said Lin Yujun, Party secretary and director of Chongqing Justice Bureau.
