Bird's Nest thieves jailed
Two men who stole ticket machines worth 1.94 million yuan from the National Stadium, known as the Bird's Nest, were sentenced to 14 years in prison with a fine of 14,000 yuan each in the Chaoyang district court, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
The two men and their accomplices used self-made keys to open the gates of the underground garage at the stadium and stole more than 57 different kinds of machines used for ticketing systems at the stadium. The other suspects are still at large.
More peak-hour buses
Beijing Public Transport Holdings Ltd has added more than 100 buses to routes in Tiantongyuan, Huilongguan and Tongzhou districts, where there are many commuters in the morning.
Almost 70 buses were put into operation in Tiantongyuan, the biggest residential community in northern Beijing.
The company also deployed traffic monitors at platforms on subway lines 4, 5, 10 and the Bawangfen-Tongzhou lines, so that they can respond to traffic increases.
Slingshot vandals arrested

Three men have been arrested after allegedly using slingshots and iron balls to shoot at shop and vehicle windows for fun, the Beijing News reported yesterday.
The Miyun county police set up checkpoints on the road after a report that many shop and vehicle windows had been smashed at midnight. They arrested a suspect who had more than 100 iron balls in his car.
Police arrested the other two suspects later.
The men caused an estimated 100,000 yuan in damage.
Cyclist killed in hit-and-run
A cyclist was killed on Sunday when he was knocked down by a passing car on Shifoying road, Chaoyang district, the Beijing Times reported yesterday.
A driver in a red Volkswagen Jetta hit the cyclist at about 7 pm, but the driver did not stop.
The cyclist died on the way to the hospital.
Traffic police said they have collected video footage from a nearby surveillance camera and called on the public to help identify the driver.
