Russians mourn 111 killed in fire

PERM, Russia: Perm residents gathered at the central morgue on a bitter cold Siberian Sunday to identify the dead after Friday's nightclub fire and express outrage over safety standards they blame for causing at least 111 deaths and injuring 123 injured. President Dmitry Medvedev declared today a national day of mourning.

Roughly three dozen people stood in the snow yesterday outside the morgue, while a small crowd laid flowers and lit candles at daybreak outside the Lame Horse nightclub where a pyrotechnics show sparked the blaze on Friday.

Eyewitnesses said sparks from fireworks set fire to wicker coverings on the walls and ceiling of the club, and that a stampede broke out as more than 200 guests rushed towards a single narrow exit.
