Europa League: Ajax through after missing 2 penalties

BERNE: Striker Luis Suarez (pictured) scored one goal and missed two second-half penalties as Ajax Amsterdam beat nine-man FC Timisoara 2-1 in Romania on Wednesday to reach the knockout stage of the Europa League.

Elsewhere, Lazio's miserable season continued when they were dumped out after a 2-1 defeat at Salzburg while former European Cup winners Steaua Bucharest were also eliminated.

Salzburg, who have a 100 percent record from five group games, went through along with Benfica, Everton, Fenerbahce, Villarreal, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Hamburg SV, all with a match to spare.
