GUANGZHOU: South China's Guangdong province is accelerating the development of its transport infrastructure in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region to boost intercity integration throughout the region.

Speaking recently at a press briefing in Guangzhou, Li Miaojuan, director of the Guangdong provincial development and reform commission, said: "The National Development and Reform Commission has recently endorsed the province's plan for an intercity light rail transit (LRT) system in the delta region.

"This means the whole delta region will have access to 23 intercity LRT routes with a total length of 1,890 km in the near future. The delta region will then witness massive changes in local people's lifestyle and productivity."
