Pork import ban lifted
China has ended a ban on imports of pork from Mexico and parts of the United States and Canada, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said on its website yesterday.
Cross-Straits agreement The mainland will allow its commercial banks to undertake cross-Straits currency settlement, Hu Xiaolian, a deputy governor at the central bank, told reporters in Taipei yesterday. Bank of China Ltd is likely to be the first mainland bank to be allowed to conduct the trade, she said at a forum in the city.
Health insurer stake
South African health insurer Discovery Holdings Limited will take a 25-percent stake in China's Ping An Health as it seeks to grow its footprint. The deal will also help the health insurance unit of Ping An Insurance, to boost its product line and improve its risk management structures.
Nufarm deal stretched
Nufarm Ltd, target of a A$2.8 billion bid from China's Sinochem Corp, said the two companies won't be able to meet their Dec 3 deadline for reaching an agreement on the proposed takeover. Nufarm told Sinochem that it's prepared to continue talks until Dec 23, the Melbourne-based company said yesterday.
Tudou eyes NASDAQ listing
Chinese video-sharing website Tudou is eyeing a NASDAQ listing in the next three years, as it aims to maintain its one-third share of a market that could be worth more than $1 billion by 2012, its chief executive said.
