Delivery delay for MAS
Malaysian Airline System Bhd (MAS), the country's national carrier, said the first deliveries of its Airbus A380 super-jumbo planes have been delayed at the manufacturer's request.
The planes are now slated to start arriving in August 2011 at the earliest, Malaysian Air said. The first of the airline's six A380s were supposed to arrive in Kuala Lumpur in January 2011, with additional planes being delivered at one-month intervals. Malaysian Air last week booked a net loss of 299.6 million ringgit ($88 million) for the fiscal third quarter after it cut ticket prices to lure passengers, reducing the carrier's yields, a measure of average revenue per passenger. The company also lost money on fuel-hedging contracts.
