Rescue attempts end

The chances of survival for 16 miners trapped for nearly four days in a coal mine in Meihekou city of Jilin province are close to zero because the water level in the mineshaft keeps rising as a result of underground flooding, experts said.

The rescue of the miners has been put on hold as experts directing the rescue yesterday could not agree on further rescue plans.
