Dog's louse extracted from man's eye

Doctors in Anshan, Liaoning province, took out a 0.8-cm-long red louse from a man's eye last Thursday.

Doctors said that the louse was a "thelazia callipaeda", which is mostly found in the eyes of dogs.

Wang Bin, the patient, said he once kept five dogs at home, and the louse possibly entered his eye while playing with his pets.

Fake army man held for reporting false cases

Police in Beijing detained a man who pretended to be a military officer and reported false cases of robbery.

The accused, surnamed Xi, 46, said police officers were extremely rude to him, which is why he decided to report false cases of crimes.

Since he wore a military uniform when he visited the police station, cops never doubted him.

Man teaches daughter with cerebral palsy to read

A man's four-year effort to educate his daughter, who suffers from cerebral palsy, finally paid off when she recited 50 Chinese poems and learnt 2,000 English words recently.

Zhao Wenxuan, 54, married Guo Hemei in 2004 and had a daughter on June 25, 2005. However, his new-born girl was diagnosed with CP. Zhao's friends persuaded him to give up his daughter, but he refused.

Zhao then gradually started teaching the girl how to talk, walk and read.

Doctors said the girl could possibly live a normal life, thanks to her father's undying efforts.

Factory worker held for accidentally killing wife

Police in Yanji, Jilin province, detained a man who "accidentally killed his wife during a quarrel" last Tuesday.

Both the husband and his wife worked at a power factory in the city. The man got a bonus of some 20,000 yuan ($2,900), which he refused to share with his wife.

During a quarrel, the man pushed his wife, who fell and hit her head on the ground.

She died on the spot.
