Wang Xindong emerged as the first local coach of the national women's handball team in eight years when the Chinese Handball Association (CHA) named the squad for the 2009 World Championships yesterday.
"The team consists of 19 players, five of whom competed at the Beijing Olympic Games last year," said Meng Wei, the CHA vice president.
Wang, who worked as an assistant coach during the Beijing Games and helped China to win silver at the 2008 Asian Championships as an interim, is "charged with" the task of qualifying the team for the 2012 London Games.
