Warriors in the boardroom

China Daily | Updated: 2009-11-27 08:04

Shaolin Temple announced this September it will spend 2 billion yuan ($230 million) to rebuild a temple in Jixian county, Tianjin. The Jixian county temple, also known as the North Shaolin Temple, is the oldest Shaolin Temple. It was mostly destroyed during World War II.

Shaolin Temple Abbot Shi Yongxin was named "the representative inheritor of the Shaolin martial arts" this June by the cultural bureau of Henan province, home of the temple, though no mention was made about Shi's kungfu abilities.

Shi Yongxin announced in November, last year, that his temple would introduce a "trusteeship" system at four 2,000-year-old temples in Yunnan. Later that month 10 Buddhist monks from Shaolin Temple were sent to work at the four temples.
