Foreigner suspected of theft

A man from South Asia was detained on suspicion of pickpocketing at an electronics market in Zhongguan, Beijing police said yesterday.

The man only identified as Imran went to a shopkeeper to exchange currency, requesting large amounts of capital. After the shopkeeper said she didn't have enough to complete the transaction, she noticed that Imran had stolen 1,200 yuan from her without her knowledge. She called out for assistance and he was confronted by other shopkeepers and held until the police arrived.
