Good start to forge a new paradigm in Sino-US relations
What characterized the Beijing Summit was a sense of normalcy of two significant countries getting together in a dignified and respectful, if somewhat reserved, manner to work out a host of new problems which both sides are coming to recognize as inescapable.
But what was new about this summit - and I have attended summits now for a number of presidents since traveling with Deng Xiaoping when he visited President Carter and the US to normalize diplomatic relations in 1979 - was the new sense of equality between the two countries.
