With Michel Goget

Money can't buy love, but it can certainly pay for things that may help grow a budding romance - or so Michael Goget believes. A realistic romanticist at heart, the general manager of the Ritz-Carlton Sanya created a "romanceologist" position at the luxury 450-room hotel that opened last year in the picturesque Yalong Bay to ensure that couples are given enough attention. Goget sat down with Shanghai Star Weekend reporter Shi Yingying to explain how his hotel encourages couples to spice up their stay in southern China's top vacation spot.
Q: What's the purpose of having a "romanceologist" on staff?
A: It is to provide men who have no clue of what is going on when it comes to romance with advice and suggestions. We have a female employee who is our lead expert in the Chinese culture of romance. I created this position even before the Ritz-Carlton Sanya resort opened last April. About 25 percent of our customers are couples and we look at this demographic very closely to provide them with a special experience. I'm proud to say that I am the first to create such a position.
