The first intellectual property alliance for the audio and video industry in Beijing was announced recently. Initiated by the Institute of Computing Technology, the China Academy of Sciences and three leading hi-tech companies - Aigo, Vimicro, and New Auto - the group considers itself a framework of cooperation between research institutions and enterprises. It also aims to establish its own audio and video coding standard. Liu Zhengang, head of the Beijing Intellectual Property Bureau, said only by strengthening the protection of intellectual property could domestic high-tech companies and their products increase competitiveness in the global market.
