Dead student's family in Beijing

The parents of Arun Stewart, a 20 year-old Brown University student who died after falling from the rooftop terrace of a 20-story apartment building near Chaoyangmen early Sunday, arrived in Beijing yesterday.

The incident occurred during a Halloween party when Stewart lost his footing, according to an online statement from Brown University President Ruth Simmons to the campus community.

A junior from Dallas, Texas majoring in East Asian Studies, Stewart was in Beijing for a year of study at Tsinghua's Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies (IUP), which is a US-sponsored Chinese language program.
