Zhou appointed to post

Zhou Ji, China's former education minister, yesterday was appointed the deputy Party secretary of the Chinese Academy of Engineering after being removed from his previous post, according to a statement published on the academy's website.

Zhou, who is 63 and two years away from retirement, had been relieved from his job after six years in office on Saturday. The standing committee of China's legislative body issued the decision without giving reasons.
