Security guard breaks ATM

A community security guard surnamed Xu, who damaged an ATM machine with a brick and tried to steal the cash, was charged with theft, the Beijing Youth Daily reported yesterday. Xu is accused of attempting to smash open an ATM after drinking alcohol in Fengtai on June 30, but he could not access the cash inside. Xu allegedly covered his head with his security uniform to avoid the camera, but was recognized by another security guard who was on duty nearby. Police detained Xu later that day. Prosecutors said he caused about 11,200 yuan ($1,640) worth of damage.
