Tribute to Isaac Stern

The 12th Beijing Music Festival will close tonight with a memorial concert to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Isaac Stern's historic trip to China in 1979. In June 1979, the American violinist Stern (1927-2001) toured China for three weeks. He gave concerts, visited conservatoires, coached students and watched the Peking Opera. His trip was filmed into a documentary called From Mao to Mozart, which won the 1980 Academy Award for documentary feature.

Tonight, seven of Stern's students gather together to give a concert under the baton of Stern's son David Stern.

7:30 pm, Oct 30. 80-180 yuan. Poly Theater, Dongsi Shitiao, Chaoyang district. 400-818-3333
