BASF income falls 69%

German chemical company BASF SE said net income fell 69 percent in the third quarter as the global downturn hurt demand and prices for the company's products.

BASF said net income fell to 237 million euros from 758 million euros in the July-September period of 2008. Revenue fell 19 percent to 12.8 billion euros from 15.7 billion euros in the third quarter of 2008.
