US hi-tech export controls to be scrutinized

By Tan Yingzi and Ding Qingfen | China Daily | Updated: 2009-10-29 08:14

HANGZHOU: The United States will review granting the market economy status and loosening controls on exports to China, visiting Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke said yesterday.

"We continue to discuss what it will take for China to declare as a market economy," he said in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.

His remarks came after Chinese media claimed that the world's largest economy is set to recognize China as a full market economy during US President Barack Obama's visit to China next month.
