Ode to Mendelssohn

The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra will present a concert of classical music, to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great German composer and conductor Mendelssohn (1809-47). The orchestra was founded in Germany in 1743, and Mendelssohn was once its conductor. The program on Oct 24 includes Mozart's Violin Concerto No 3 in G Major K 216 and Mahler's Symphony No 1. The one on Oct 25 features Mendelssohn's Symphony No 5 and Bruckner Symphony No 4.
