China Daily | Updated: 2009-10-23 08:45

BORDEAUX, France: Defender Michael Ciani turned from villain to hero in Girondins Bordeaux's entertaining 2-1 home Champions League win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday. Ciani put the visitors in front by diverting the ball into his own net from a corner on six minutes but made amends on the half-hour with a superb goal, scoring with his right heel with his back to the goal.

Bayern had playmaker Thomas Mueller sent off for a second booking and five minutes from the break defender Marc Planus scored the winner for the French champions from close range.

Bordeaux then missed two penalties and Bayern had another player sent off in an eventful but goalless second half.
