DABU, Guangdong: Amid the unfavorable economic conditions pertaining both nationally and internationally, Dabu county, set in the southern coastal province of Guangdong, generated a remarkable sales revenue of 567.27 million yuan and a tax income of 38.03 million yuan from its ceramics industry in the first three quarters of 2009. The figures represent a growth of 65.9 percent and 86.9 percent respectively, based on the same period last year.
Qiu Xiaohong, Party secretary of the county, claimed this sustained development of the ceramics industry was the direct result of the local authorities' bid to establish it as one of Dabu's key economic sectors. To this end, the local government has launched several initiatives in order to help the area's ceramic businesses develop as brands.
