China's most influential animal protection organization is calling for harsher action after 12 veterinary clinics were disqualified.
The Beijing Animal Health Inspection Institute (BAHII) launched inspections on the city's entire 352 veterinary hospitals and 12 offending organizations were disqualified and fined 29,107 yuan ($4,280), according to its official website.
However Lu Di, head of Beijing-based China Small Animal Protection Association, told METRO yesterday the authorities should be tougher and the veterinary industry was still disordered.
