Editor's note: Jilin, one of the most beautiful provinces in northeast China, prides itself on its natural resources and cultural heritage. Despite the many competing claims of other areas within the province, eight tourist spots have come to represent Jilin at its most charming. These are the first four of them. The remaining four will feature in China Daily next week.
Changbai Mountain Waterfall
The Changbai Mountain, the highest promontory in northeast China, has a long and extremely cold winter, due both to its latitude and altitude. "Changbai" means "always white" in Chinese, indicating the perennially snow-capped status of this lofty peak.
