Kungfu teenager robs store
A 15-year-old boy, who studied martial arts at a school near the famous Shaolin Temple, was sentenced to 18 months in jail and fined 1,500 yuan ($220) after he broke into a clothes shop and robbed it, the Beijing Evening News reported yesterday.
The Dongcheng district court heard the boy, surnamed Jin, quit his school in Henan province and came to Beijing to become a migrant worker. On July 24, after coming out of a Dongsi Internet cafe, he discovered he had run out of money, so robbed a nearby clothes shop taking 500 yuan.
Man uses brother's ID for 12 years
A man, who lived in South Korea under his elder brother's name for 12 years, was apprehended by the Beijing border police on Sunday on the return to China. In 1997, the man, surnamed Yu, went to South Korea after his sister-in-law died in a car accident. His brother could not be located because he was doing business somewhere in China so Yu posed as his brother in the pending court case. After he lost the case against the driver, a friend took his sister-in-law's ashes back to China and Yu remained in the country to pursue the case, the Beijing Evening News said.
Rush to see red leaves
More than 100,000 people visited the Fragrant Hills Park over the weekend to see the red leaves, the Beijing Times reported yesterday.
According to park authorities, 30 percent of leaves have already turned red in the past couple days, and about 50 percent of leaves are expected to be red by next weekend, especially after Sunday's 4 C cold snap.
The administration office reminds all visitors to avoid the peak visiting period from 10 am to 2 pm because of overcrowding and has issued a smoking ban.
Woman to be charged
A woman, who allegedly organized a violent attack on her own company after a fight with her husband, a co-founder of the company, will be charged by Daxing prosecutors, the Beijing Times reported yesterday.
The woman, surnamed Zhang, runs a clothing company with her husband. Zhang is the manager of the company while her husband works as the legal representative. Zhang had a fight with her husband regarding the development of the company in June. Then she allegedly asked more than 20 men to destroy everything in the company on Aug 28.
