Ever since I delved into the eight-volume 21st Century Chinese Literature Series, a platform on which the current literary voices of China take turns telling stories, it has been a total engagement. The stories - compulsive, sad and ruthlessly complicated - are symptomatic of the times we live in. This is probably not the sort of literature you would like to take along on your next beach holiday.
