West China trade fair
The five-day 10th annual Western China International Economy & Trade Fair will start today in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan province.
More than 50,000 people will attend this year's fair including 88 Chinese and foreign ministers and senior officials, presidents of 118 Fortune 500 firms and multinationals, and 58 Chinese and foreign economists and scholars.
The fair is aimed at building itself into the country's key platform of diplomatic exchanges, investment promotion and trade cooperation in West China so as to promote economic and trade communications and cooperation between West China and Pan-Asia regions.
Tibetan language on air
An 18-hour Tibetan-language satellite TV channel is expected to be launched on Oct 28 in Sichuan province, a local official said yesterday.
The channel is the third Tibetan-language satellite TV channel in the country after two similar channels in the Tibet autonomous region and Qinghai province, where most of five million Tibetans live, said He Daxin, head of the Sichuan provincial administration of radio, film and television.
The new channel will reach 2.4 million Kamba-speaking population in Sichuan, Tibet, Qinghai, Yunnan and Gansu through satellite, cable TV and wireless transmitters, he said.
