EARLY LIFE
- Maier was born in Dec 1972 in Flachau, Austria. He attended the Austrian national ski academy in 1988 but left to study brick-laying.
- Maier failed to impress national team selectors for several years but things changed in 1996 when he mustered the courage to resign from a construction company after posting a top time as a World Cup race forerunner in his native Flachau.
