World No 1 Tiger Woods and many of the current top-ranked male golfers could be among the medal contenders when the sport returns to the 2016 Olympic Games after a 112-year absence.

The women's draw should be just a competitive as the US LPGA tour has tossed up more surprise winners and teen stars than the men's tour in recent years.

The top 15 players in the world are eligible for the Olympics, regardless of the number of players from a given country. Beyond the top 15, players will be eligible based on world rankings, with a maximum of two players from each country that does not already have two or more players among the top 15.
