Young guns to stay in traditional system, for now

By Yu Yilei | China Daily | Updated: 2009-10-13 08:12

The new generation of China's women's tennis players delighted the home crowd during the just-concluded China Open with some excellent performances.

However, those efforts were not enough to win them an opportunity to leave the state-support system and become self-managed players like stars Li Na and Zheng Jie.

Gao Shenyang, vice director of Chinese Tennis Association (CTA), said the association was in no hurry to let the young players follow in the footsteps of older and well-established players like Li, Zheng, Peng Shuai and Yan Zi, who were granted the right to manage themselves at the end of last year.
