Better deal

Nineteen top universities in Beijing will have more freedom to enroll students independently, according to the new Beijing 2010 college entrance examination format.

Xian Lianping, spokesperson of the Education Supervisory Office of Beijing government, said the new scheme, which was released on Friday, was designed to promote quality education and help universities choose students with versatile abilities, not just academic scores.
