Road cave-in hits utilities

Water and gas supplies to more than 5,000 households were disrupted in Baoshan district of Shanghai after a 200-m-long road caved in yesterday morning. The damaged road section, bordering a construction site of a supermarket and shopping center, caved in more than 4 m. The collapsed road surface crushed a 700-mm-wide gas pipe underground and cut gas supplies. The damage also hit a water pipe, disrupting water supply for nearby residents for four hours.
