CHICAGO: Big sporting events have big budgets. Depending on whom you ask, they have big payoffs, too.

All four cities that fought to host the 2016 Summer Olympics - Chicago, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and Tokyo - had multibillion-dollar budgets for the games. And each said the event would bring billions more to their economies.

Just how much money will the 2016 Summer Games bring in for Rio de Janeiro? It's not an easy puzzle. The economic benefit of an Olympic Games - if there is one - depends entirely on whom you ask and how they decide to calculate the numbers.
