Thief caught, frozen in fear after stealing phone

A thief attempting to steal a cell phone from a worker's shed as the workers napped was caught after failing to make an escape.

According to the phone's owner, surnamed Hu, the thief was so frightened by the number of people chasing him that he stood frozen in fear, barely able to stand, before being apprehended by the workers.

Girl, 12, falls from 8-story building

A 12-year-old girl in Jianyang, Sichuan province survived with light injuries after falling from the roof of an 8-story residential building last Thursday evening.

Deng Wenli was playing on the roof of the 27-m-tall building when she fell from the roof and became trapped in a small gap between the two buildings.

Firefighters freed Deng and sent her to a local hospital. She was found to have suffered minor abrasions on her face, back and legs but was not seriously injured.


Man walks 250 km trying to win back ex-lover

A man in Chongqing municipality followed in the footsteps of several love-struck Romeos who in the recent past have walked hundreds of kilometers to woo their ex-girlfriends - an effort that has in most cases proved futile.

The result in the latest case was no different.

The man walked from Chongqing to Chengdu, almost 250 km away, where his ex-girlfriend attends university.

It took the man two weeks to cover the distance but, after arriving, his former lover refused to meet him.


120 restaurant workers rally for injured friend

Some 120 restaurant workers in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, spent the week looking after their seriously-injured colleague who has been in a coma for over a week.

Wang Yan, a worker in the restaurant, was put into a coma after being struck by a vehicle as she finished work last Saturday. For the last week, restaurant workers have flooded her hospital room, trying to wake Wang by talking and singing to her.

They said they hoped their love and care would wake Wang up as soon as possible.

Lost on highway, drunk calls police for directions

A drunken pedestrian who lost his way on a highway in Qijiang county, Chongqing municipality, phoned the police for directions on Tuesday night.

Police thought the caller was a drunken driver and sent 10 officials in search for him.

The caller was unable to reveal his exact location.

Police eventually found the man after almost an hour and took him to the police station, where he dozed off.

Man detained for bomb in bag gag

Police in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province, detained an intoxicated migrant worker who claimed he was carrying a bomb before trying to board a bus on Monday.

Lian Haiming, 43, from Handan, Hebei province, was asked to open his bag for a random check before boarding the bus, when he jokingly said he was carrying a bomb.

Police were called on the scene and Lian was detained for disturbing public order.

Panda born from artificial insemination

A baby panda was born at the Wolong Nature Reserve in Sichuan province recently.

The panda's mother was artificially inseminated with the sperm of a wild panda several months ago.

Zoo officials said since inbreeding among pandas can prove harmful to the rare animals, they had been preserving wild pandas' semen for almost a decade.
