So it's our last day in the environs of Zunyi, a trip that has taken us through Moutai, Chishui, a number of smaller cities and villages, several astonishing parks and, of course, Zunyi itself. Perhaps an apt moment to pause and reflect, what are the 10 lessons we will take away from the trip?

1. The persistence of sedan chair carriers is roughly in direct proportion to the weight of the laowai.

2. If the prehistoric inventor of stone steps had patented his idea, his heirs would still be making a good living out of IPR royalties from the Zunyi area alone.
