Help the second poor generation

"Wealth cannot be inherited through more than three generations", is a Chinese version of the English proverb that "from clogs to clogs is only three generations". To avoid suffering the truth of the adage, the authorities of Jiangsu province have sponsored a training program for the "second affluent generation", i.e. children of the rich.

The program aims at training reliable successors for rich entrepreneurs. Nice try, though, I'm afraid it won't work.

First of all, most in the second affluent generation have received first-class education, and many of them have studied abroad, supported by their rich families. More free training seems to be unnecessary.

Second, what those playboys should learn is to respect others and to be responsible. The series of speed racing scandals involving such people recently underscores that what they lack is public ethic and social responsibility. While the rich parents are too busy making money to educate their children, isn't it too fawning for the government to babysit their children for free? The only practical way to cultivate the second affluent generation is good parental guidance.

In contrast with the second affluent generation, there is a "second poor generation", which makes up the bulk of young Chinese and which is urgently in need of the governments' help. If the Jiangsu provincial government really wants to launch training programs, it is the second poor generation they should help.

On the one hand, helping the poor to make a fortune plays a significant role in achieving common prosperity. On the other hand, the wealthy have already squeezed the last coin out of the poor's pockets through the stock markets and real estate business. Any additional favoritism to the rich will only sharpen the income disparity and add to social instability in the long run.
