Closer economic ties

Top negotiators from Taiwan and the mainland plan to meet later this year for talks on a free trade agreement-like deal that would bring the two economies closer, a Taiwan official said yesterday.

The negotiators will meet in Taiwan after the island holds local elections in early December to talk about the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement, said Wu Den-yih, central committee secretary general of the Kuomintang Party.
