How does a man sort out a dispute between his pregnant wife and an obstinate mother? This is the question director Gao Liang calls on his audience to answer in the drama Being an In-law, which is running at the People's Art Theater.
The cast centers on a couple, Liu Yiduo and his wife Li Duoxi, who tie the knot after various difficulties, but are then upset by post-marriage conflict, in particular about housework.
Li and her mother-in-law go to Liu for arbitration and Liu initially supports his mother until the tables are eventually turned.
