Celebrities can never justify drug abuse
It is strange to hear pop singer Han Xiao, detained for drug abuse, confess that he took drugs for inspiration. The recent expose of celebrities addicted to drugs has belittled them in the eyes of the public, says an article in Yangcheng Evening News. Excerpt:
People now should not be surprised to hear that their favorite celebrity uses drugs irrespective of his/her positive, responsible and healthy image in the public. We have recently been bombarded by news of celebrities such as Xie Dong, Jing Gangshan, Man Wenjun and Japanese pop star Noriko Sakai, famous for her girl-next-door image, using drugs.
Do we then conclude that drug abuse has been rampant in entertainment industry? Maybe yes. If a person wants to do something wrong, he/she can always find enough reasons for the act. It's another matter that no wrong can ever be justified. No excuse - from trying to ease pressure and searching for inspiration to tackling loneliness and adhering to fashionable lifestyle - is good enough when it comes to drug abuse. Drug addiction can never be accepted no matter who the addict is.
Celebrities are expected to be good role models for all, and thus carry a lot of social responsibility. And this responsibility should make them exercise self-control and preserve their moral integrity. Only by so doing can they expect respect from the public.
